Five on Friday: Koalas, Baby Gifts, and Sleepy Baseball Games

October 30, 2015 By Lauren

Now that the school year’s in full swing, it feels like the weeks are flying by! We only have about 7 weeks until Christmas break, and then after that it’s only another 10-12 weeks until baby arrives and our world pretty much stops for a while.  Where the heck is the time going? Here’s a few updates from our fun week this week:

1) Sweet Mama Friends

I have felt so loved by some of my sweet mama friends these last few weeks! This past weekend, my friend Courtney texted me out of the blue and asked if I’d be interested in any of her maternity clothes.  I said “HECK YES!!!” and picked them up and it was a bucket full of cute tops, dresses, leggings, and a few pairs of jeans and pants.  Such a blessing! Then my sweet teacher friend Megan (who is pretty much the most thoughtful person in the whole world) ordered these adorable bibs below and had them sent to my school mailbox as a surprise after she found out I was having a boy.  Seriously?! So stinking cute! I’m so grateful for how the moms in my world have already made me feel like a valued and loved part of their community.  Maybe this whole mamahood thing won’t be too bad!

2) Corn Chowder Goodness

The weather FINALLY got a little chilly this week and I celebrated by making a big pot of yummy soup and wearing lots of sweatpants.  I’ve been trying to reduce how much meat we consume (don’t tell my husband) and make some healthy, hearty more vegetarian options we can eat throughout the week.  This corn and potato chowder was warm and delicious and full of yummy veggies and a creamy flavorful broth.  I definitely recommend it!

3) Our People, Our Puppy, And Our Team

Our church small group meets on Tuesday nights, which means the fall sometimes gets a little crazy when the Royals decide to be awesome and play games on Tuesday nights.  We had everyone over to watch the first World Series game on Tuesday and it ended up being FIVE hours long.  What in the world? We played Royals Bingo, snuggled little miss Olive, and persevered even as several people fell asleep on the floor and the couch because we’re super young and awesome and totally not lame grownups who go to bed at 9:30 PM every night (oh wait).  I’m so grateful to share life with this people, even when life sometimes just looks like eating brownies and watching baseball together!

If you want to make someone feel loved…love on and snuggle their dog. Just saying.

4) Australian Houseguests

Our Airbnb has slowed down a little bit since the summer, but we’ve still had guests about 2-3 nights a week over these last few months (sometimes more, sometimes less).  This week we had a sweet couple from Australia stay with us and they were so fun! They were friendly and wonderful and we loved watching the Royals game with them on Wednesday night (even if we did have to explain baseball a little).  We were cracking up talking about the differences between the States and Australia, and they left us some yummy Australian chocolate and these cute little koala/kangaroo souvenirs as a parting gift.  If you’ve never used Airbnb, you need to check out this post about how we started hosting and making money with Airbnb or this post about how to travel with Airbnb.  It’s such a fun way to make a little extra cash and bring the people of the world into your living room!

5) Five Month Bumpdate

Just in case you missed yesterday’s five month pregnancy update, Baby English and I are doing well! I’m at 21 weeks now, which means I am more than halfway through this pregnancy.  As we prepare to start working on the nursery, doing our baby registry, and jumping head on into baby stuff, it’s all starting to feel a a lot more real and exciting.  And who doesn’t love a cute little baby bump? I’ve loved feeling like I look pregnant, or as my first grader niece said, “It looks like you just ate a big lunch but you actually have a baby in there!” Thanks? I’ve been feeling truly pregnant for the first time these past few weeks and it is such a fun transition to make. (PS: This dress is from Old Navy’s maternity line.  They have such great sales and cute stuff! I’m a big fan so far.)

You are seriously the cutest pregnant lady EVER!! Also those bibs are the best. They are great when little ones are cutting a tooth and drooling more, because they look like an accessory rather than a bib 🙂
