Neutral Boy Nursery Inspiration

December 3, 2015 By Lauren

If you love the inspiration in this post, make sure to check out the pictures and finished post about our little man’s neutral, rustic nursery.  I love how it turned out and if you love these pictures, I have a feeling you will too!

Since we moved into our house last January (you can see a house tour from last spring here – hoping to share an updated one soon) I have had so much fun decorating our space and making it feel like home.  I love the creative outlet it is and the way it lets me experiment with color, texture, and vision for different spaces without much risk (because really, as long as hubby and I like it we are happy).

Add a baby and some pregnancy nesting hormones to the mix, and you can bet I have been ALL about our nursery planning! We’re done with cleaning out the nursery, painting the trim a crisp white, and painting the walls (they are a beautiful gray-white color by Behr called Silver Drop), so now it’s time to get dreaming and planning about furniture and decor ideas for our neutral boy nursery!

Gorgeous neutral gray boy nursery ideas - perfect if you're expecting a little man but want a crisp and calm nursery space!

For our sweet little man, I envision a light, airy, neutral space with lots of grays and whites and the occasional pop of charcoal gray or navy.  How gorgeous are these light gray walls and dark curtains from Sinclair and Moore Blog?

This nursery is tied with the picture above for being my favorite.  The walls and trim are gorgeous and I love love love that combo of the white furniture with the textured baskets, the light glider, and that beautiful striped rug.  The dark light fixture is what inspired me to pull in some darker tones to our decor for this room (similar to the curtains above).

These pictures below have a similar feel and I love the combination of pretty grays and whites with pops of wood textures and some darker colors.

I don’t know that I’ll do some sort of explicit theme like sailing, forest animals, planes, space, or other common boy themes since I mostly just want it to feel light and relaxing with a hint of whimsy and boyishness. But if this room follows the rest of our house at all, I will probably pull in some elements of maps, travel, and adventure.  I think maps are beautiful and I love the idea of including some framed maps or some vintage travel motifs like hot air balloons in this picture below.  Maybe a little less pink and more blue/gray, but you get the picture!

How pretty is this paper wreath made of maps? I just made one of these from old book pages for Christmas and could easily make one with maps too.

Lastly, when I think about a statement art piece of some sort, this is the sign I’ve come back to over and over.  House of Belonging is an incredible Etsy shop that makes beautiful, handmade custom signs with Scripture, quotes, and other pretties, and I may or may not have ordered this sign below when they had a 20% off sale on Black Friday.  It’s expensive but it makes this mama-to-be swoon and tear up when she looks at it and dreams of adventures with her little man.  So we’ll just say it’s my Christmas present from Jordan and call it good (very, VERY good, and pretty and oh my gosh all the squeals in the world).

So many pretty dreams and so much good inspiration to be found, y’all.  As of right now, we’ve bought this pretty and simple white crib from Ikea, this dresser/changing table from Ikea I’m excited to dress up with some new hardware, and this pouf from Land of Nod. I also grabbed some dark gray curtains from Ikea and I’m excited to see how they fit when we fit it all together (notice an Ikea trend here?).  Let’s just say Black Friday sales were very good to us!

The last major nursery purchase we need to make is a glider, and I’m leaning toward this one from Target.  It’s comfy and cute and hopefully perfect for lots of late-night snuggles.  We have some coupons from Black Friday to use and will hopefully buy it at about 40% off this weekend! We are excited to start putting this all together during Christmas break, so get excited for more pictures soon and a whole reveal in January!

UPDATE: Our nursery is done! Make sure to pop over and check out the gorgeous pics of our little man’s neutral and rustic boy nursery!
