Five on Friday: Photo Shoots And Best Friend Time

January 22, 2016 By Lauren

Y’all, last weekend was WONDERFUL.  I had Friday off for a doctor’s appointment and Monday off for MLK day, plus my best friend from college came to visit so we soaked up lots of sweet time together.  The short week after that flew by and I am so glad to be at another weekend again! Here are a few updates from our week.

1) Best Friend Time

I can’t say enough how fun it was to have my friend Haley in town.  This girl has an adventurous spirit and a passion to see and know the world, both with her camera and her heart.  We played lots of games of Settlers, sat on the couch and talked forever and ever, and she was such a trooper to help me do 101 nursery crafts and projects so we could get it all done and photograph it while she was there to give me tips (okay more like to just take the pictures).  There’s something so sweet about being with an old friend who knows you inside and out and I miss this girl already.  She leaves next week for two months of adventuring in Thailand, Burma, and Cambodia, and I can’t wait to follow along with her adventures on her gorgeous Instagram and photography blog!

2) Maternity Photos

While Haley was here, we captured some maternity photos.  I was envisioning a beautiful outdoor winter shoot, but the weather decided to be a little TOO wintery and was between 2-5 degrees all day (felt like it was in the negatives).  We ended up doing most of the pictures in our bedroom and the nursery and ten quick minutes of VERY cold pictures outside near our house before all of our fingers and noses froze.  And y’all, they turned out so beautifully! Haley shared her favorites yesterday on her blog and I am so excited to share some of my favorites here next week.  Haley made me feel beautiful and not like a giant ball of aches and pains, and I am forever grateful for that! Here’s one sneak peek that I love:

3) Nursery Reveal

After spending months dreaming and working on our nursery, it is finally done! I shared a ton of pictures yesterday in this nursery reveal post yesterday and was so delighted that you all love it too.  I love to go put my feet up in this space and feel little Caleb wiggle around in my belly.  Sometime soon (seven weeks now!) I’ll sit there with him in my arms and I can’t wait for that! Now it’s on to the final countdown until his arrival and we are getting oh so excited (and terrified).

4) Almost Snow Days

Kansas City’s weather has been playing tricks on us this week, with a few days where we thought we might get enough snow for a snow day but it never quite measured up.  Walking around and balancing on the icy walkways is no fun and I was especially not happy to walk out from school on Tuesday to this lovely view (which included all of our cars with frozen-over windshields that needed to be scraped off).  I love me some winter and snow days, but come on people…this is the worst! Here’s hoping we get an actual pretty snow day soon instead of just an inch or two that makes everything difficult without any of the perks.

My lovely view walking out of school almost every day this week.

5) Giving Myself Grace

As the year kicks back into full swing, I have so many people I want to get coffee with, couples we want to have over for dinner, and random nesting tasks I want to get done.  But this week my body has pretty much thrown in the towel, with backaches, crampiness and nausea, and Braxton Hicks contractions if I try to be on my feet for long (try being a teacher without standing up – it’s rough).  I’m trying to give myself grace to just come home and lay on the couch, knowing that the wonderful people in our lives have all the grace for me in this season.  As all you fellow over-achievers know, resting can be much harder than it sounds.  So if you think of me this week, shoot up some prayers that I’d slow down, let certain tasks fall to the wayside, and put my feet up with this sweet puppy and my hubby as we soak in these last seven weeks of pregnancy and life as a family of three.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! And if you live in the North, I hope you are bundled up and ready for the snowstorm of the century headed your way! P.S.  If you made it all the way to the bottom of this post, you are a rock star and should probably join us on Facebook to get updates on future posts.  Just saying.  😉

Today is the DAY! We have had SO much fun transforming Caleb’s nursery into a beautiful, bright space for him to grow up…
