Five Ways To Update And Brighten A Dark Hallway

February 16, 2016 By Lauren

I received hardware from D. Lawless Hardware in return for writing this post.  However, any opinions expressed are still my own and I promise I would only recommend products that I love and use myself!

We lived in our house almost a year before even touching the upstairs hallway.  Since we didn’t have kiddos and the only people in that hallway were the occasional Airbnb guest, we just weren’t all that worried about it.  But once we started working on our little boy’s nursery , we got inspired to update this space!

Like most of our house, it was painted a yellowy-tan with orange-toned wood trim (we had already painted the trim in this picture, but you can see what it looks like in the before pictures of our son’s nursery).  There’s one big window opposite the hallway, but otherwise it gets almost no natural light and felt very dark and closed off.
Hallway BeforeA couple hours of work, some coats of paint, and a few pretty frames later, it looks so much better! If you’re looking to update your hallway, I recommend you try these five things that we did.  They made all the difference and our hallway is now a space I love walking through!

Is your hallway dark and outdated These 6 tips will help you to update and brighten a dark hallway for cheap!

February 9, 2016 By Lauren

Since I shared our little man’s nursery reveal a few weeks back, I’ve gotten so many compliments on the gallery wall above his changing table! The longer we’ve been in our house, the more confident I’ve gotten in my design and decor dreaming, and designing this nursery gallery wall was such a fun process.

If you’ve ever wanted to design a gallery wall for a nursery or another room, these are my tried and true tips for making sure it’s warm, personal, and balanced instead of feeling too cluttered or mismatched like some gallery walls do.  I hope these tips will inspire you to try your hand at designing a gallery wall of your own!

If you're dreaming of a beautiful nursery gallery wall, you've got to check out these tips! They'll help keep it cozy, balanced, and fun!

Easy Initials Pennant Tutorial

February 2, 2016 By Lauren

As I’ve been working on the nursery for our little man, I’ve gone through what seems like hundreds of ideas of what I wanted on the walls (you can check out the finished nursery here!).  Since I was putting a bigger statement piece over the wall with the crib and glider, I wanted something with smaller pieces for the opposite wall over the changing table to balance things out.  The idea for this little, easy initials pennant with our boy’s initials would be the perfect addition to the gallery wall!

I picked up a few random materials on clearance at Hobby Lobby and got to work, pretty much just making it up as I went.  It is the perfect pop of color in the gallery wall and was a great prop for our maternity shoot.  I love how it turned out and it was SO easy!

Cheap and easy initials pennant tutorial - Such a cute and easy project for a baby or kids room!

Caleb’s Rustic Neutral Nursery Reveal

January 21, 2016 By Lauren

I received free hardware for our nursery from D. Lawless Hardware in exchange for my honest review of their products.  This post also contains some affiliate links (aka I earn a little commission if you click through and end up buying/loving the product too).  However, I only ever recommend products I love and use myself.  I promise!

I may or may not be squealing as I type this because I am SO excited to finally get to share Caleb’s rustic neutral nursery with you! It has been such a fun process to turn this room into a beautiful, cozy space that we can bring our son into and I am so excited and honored to invite y’all into our home to see it today.

First, here’s a glimpse of the before.  The walls were a faded yellow, the trim was orange, scratched wood, and the whole room just felt very warm and yellowy (is that a word?), especially since the sun shines directly into it in the afternoons and evenings.

Six Ways To Decorate For Christmas Without Spending Money

December 10, 2015 By Lauren

When I shared our Christmas home tour on Monday, a comment I saw many times is that people just didn’t have the money to buy decorations this year. If they couldn’t decorate for Christmas without spending any money, they felt like they couldn’t decorate at all.

First of all, I totally hear you on that one.  Store-bought decorations are SO expensive and honestly, aren’t always even that cute.  But friends, you do NOT have to spend all your hard-earned money on decorations to make your house cute (especially if you’re like me and would rather spend that money on overpriced holiday coffee drinks – gingerbread lattes forever!).  There are so many ways to decorate with what you already have or find a few, cute pieces at secondhand stores.  These six tips below are my tried and true methods for decorating cheaply and I hope they help you make your house beautiful and cozy without breaking the bank!

Cheap, easy ways to decorate for Christmas with things you already have around the house!

Cozy Christmas Home Tour

December 7, 2015 By Lauren

This is Jordan’s and my first Christmas in our home and it’s the first time in the years we’ve been together that I actually put some time into decorating.  As the months pass, I’m getting more and more confident in my style and my ability to create beautiful little vignettes around my house that bring me joy as we go through our days.  I loved coming up with some crafts and ideas to do this Christmas, as well as figuring out how I could use some decorations we already had to bring in some pops of red or coziness.  And you know what? I LOVE how it turned out! I’m sitting on my couch staring at my mantle and my glowing Christmas tree as I write this and I couldn’t be happier with how it all turned out.

Beautiful Christmas home tour with neutrals, vintage touches, and pops of red and green! So many pretty and easy ideas!

Neutral Boy Nursery Inspiration

December 3, 2015 By Lauren

If you love the inspiration in this post, make sure to check out the pictures and finished post about our little man’s neutral, rustic nursery.  I love how it turned out and if you love these pictures, I have a feeling you will too!

Since we moved into our house last January (you can see a house tour from last spring here – hoping to share an updated one soon) I have had so much fun decorating our space and making it feel like home.  I love the creative outlet it is and the way it lets me experiment with color, texture, and vision for different spaces without much risk (because really, as long as hubby and I like it we are happy).

Add a baby and some pregnancy nesting hormones to the mix, and you can bet I have been ALL about our nursery planning! We’re done with cleaning out the nursery, painting the trim a crisp white, and painting the walls (they are a beautiful gray-white color by Behr called Silver Drop), so now it’s time to get dreaming and planning about furniture and decor ideas for our neutral boy nursery!

Gorgeous neutral gray boy nursery ideas - perfect if you're expecting a little man but want a crisp and calm nursery space!

Neutral Fall Sign With Decoupage Letters Tutorial

October 6, 2015 By Lauren

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a directions follower.  Give me a recipe, a set of steps for a project, or detailed instructions and I am a happy camper.  Following other people’s directions is much easier than forging my own path because if I fail, there’s someone else to blame besides myself.  Because I was just following directions, right? There’s no way it could be user error (please note the sarcasm here).

Since I got married and moved away from all of my artistic and creative friends from college (whom I love dearly), I’ve had to learn to trust my own creativity.  I’ve started making dinner without checking a recipe or jumping into a craft with nothing but some random supplies from Hobby Lobby and an idea that popped into my head.

And you know what I’m learning, guys? My ideas aren’t half bad.  Sometimes I come up with really yummy recipes like this mocha brownies recipe or fun crafts like this fall burlap wreath I made a few weeks ago.  Turns out I’ve got some good ideas in this head of mine.  Who woulda thunk?

This neutral fall sign is a unique project to add some cozy charm to your fall decor! And so easy too!

How To Make A Fall Burlap Bubble Wreath

September 29, 2015 By Lauren

UPDATE: Make sure to check out our 2016 cozy and neutral fall home tour to see this wreath and the other fun touches I added to give our house some autumn spirit!

This is our first year in an actual house (you can check out the tour of our home here!) and I’m so excited to start creating some decorations that we can hopefully use in our home for years to come.  The decorations my mom used to put up for each holiday are such a big part of my childhood memories of those holidays and I want to create some of those same traditions for our kiddos (even if the first one is still in my belly and unable to appreciate our awesome fall decorations quite yet).

This rustic fall burlap bubble wreath is simple, beautiful, easy to make, and involves just a few materials. Check out this post for the easy step-by-step tutorial!

Our Front Room Makeover: A Long Overdue Reveal!

September 3, 2015 By Lauren

Oh man, this post is SO long coming.  When I completely painted and made over our wood hutch a few months back, I promised I’d share more about our front room makeover soon.  Welllll, one positive pregnancy test, lots of morning (aka all-day) sickness, and about six weeks later, I’m finally getting around to sharing some pictures of our front room makeover!

This room is a small space right off our front door (you can see our most recent house tour from a few months ago here).  I think it’s designed to be a “sitting room” or more formal parlor of sorts, but it’s not our main living space so it really isn’t all that functional.  It might eventually become some sort of kids’ space for homework, books, etc, but for now, it’s just a fun space we get to play with and walk by without really doing anything practical there (we’ll soak that in as much as we can before kiddos enter the picture and destroy everything, you know?).
