Our Cozy, Neutral Fall Home Tour

October 17, 2016 By Lauren

When it comes to fall decor, I am all about keeping things simple and cozy.  If you were here for our Christmas home tour, you might remember my goal is always to use things we already have around the house in new ways to give the house some holiday cheer without spending too much money (in fact, I wrote a post about just that!).

Fall is even more low-key around here since it’s such a busy season for us, but I have found the time to move things around and add a little bit of coziness to our space.  I almost feel silly calling it a home tour since all I’ve really done is add a few little white pumpkins and small decorations here and there but I’ll give you a glimpse into our home anyway.

When you walk into our house, the first thing you see is this nook across from the front door.  When we moved into our house back in 2015, this space was a little frustrating for me and I had no idea what to put there.  Now it’s one of my favorite spots to decorate and mix up for the seasons! I added a pretty velvet pumpkin and switched out some of the wall art and voila…a little more autumn feeling!

To the left of the front door is our front room.  Can I just pause and say my mind is BLOWN by the fact that this little room has been pinned almost 100k times on Pinterest? I’ve had several friends say they went to pin a pretty living room on Pinterest, thought it looked familiar, and realized it was MY living room!

The way this blog has grown is so fun and mind-blowing to me and I’m so grateful to all of you who have read, pinned, or shared my posts in any way!  Anyway, back to our tour! This hutch in the front room got a styling makeover a few weeks back so all I had to do to update it was add a few little pumpkins.  It looks so much better than it did when I first shared how I distressed and styled it almost two years ago! Seriously, the before and afters are crazy so check out that post if you weren’t around here when I made over this hutch a few years back.

This next little shelf is another fun space to decorate, even though the tall, shallow shelves are a little challenging for me at times.  I have a feeling this shelf will get a makeover when my little one starts to crawl and wants to pull everything off of it! For now, I’m happy with this book wreath and some other fun little fall touches.

Moving into the living room…I shared a few weeks back about how we updated our Ikea Billy bookcases to look like built-ins, and y’all, I am still loving them! A lot of the decor in our home is neutral and can easily be made to match a season with a few touches, so adding a few little white pumpkins and this fun $3 banner from the Target dollar store section was all I did here.

Lastly, I mixed things up with our pillows.  I shifted out the brighter, more springy tones to our basement and just left the white, gray, and green ones plus two navy checkered ones I got on clearance at Target a few weeks back.  All I want to do is curl up on this couch under a blanket and watch This is Us forever.  You too?

And one more thing: I was hoping to share our beautiful front porch with some pretty red mums and the wreath I made last year but…the mums are totally dead.  Y’all, I officially have a black thumb.  I swear I watered them every day but I’m pretty sure I must have done something else wrong because they are dead dead dead.  I guess a mama can only keep so many creatures alive, ya know?

I do love this wreath though.  Make sure to check out my tutorial on how I made it if you’re looking for a fun and easy fall craft!

Well, there you have it! Your own personal glimpse into our home this year. I’ll end with a picture of what I’d say is the absolute cutest thing in our whole house, even if he was a little confused about what mom was doing with that big black plastic thing clicking in his face! Happy fall, y’all!

Ha decorating shelves is something I have taken forever to feel confident in. It’s so hard to get everything just right! I bet Aiden’s room is much cuter than you’re making it out to be! 🙂

Your house looks adorable and perfectly fall-ish. I miss decorating for fall, where we live in Australia all of the seasons pretty much run together.

Aww thanks, Courtney! Ha I grew up in southern California and the seasons run together there too so I definitely feel your pain. You just have to pretend the weather is like whatever season it actually is and go from there! 😉
