Five on Friday: Fall Goodness And One CRAZY Husband

October 21, 2016 By Lauren

Happy happy Friday! October is more than halfway over which means our schedules are calming down a bit and the cool weather has me dreaming of the holidays (too soon?).  Here are some updates from the last week in the English house!

1) Fall Vibes

The weather has cooled off and I am LOVING these gray, cloudy days.  They’re perfect for walks, cozy blankets, and mugs of coffee while my baby nugget naps.  I feel like it’s almost cliche, but my heart feels so full when the temperature starts to change and I know we’re heading into a new season (a season which includes Thanksgiving and Christmas, so that might have something to do with it).  I shared a mini fall home tour with some fun pictures of our fall decor from this year, so make sure to check that out if you haven’t already!

2) My Crazy Fast Husband

Okay, so I’ve mentioned my hubby runs competitively and is pretty darn fast, right? Well, this past weekend he ran not one, but TWO marathons.  He ran the Kansas City Marathon on Saturday, drove to Iowa on Saturday evening, and ran the Des Moines marathon on Sunday morning.  And not only did he finish both of them, he ran both of them in less than 3 hours and 25 minutes! WHAT IN THE WORLD? He wanted to test the limits of what he could do, and y’all, he did it.  I’m proud of how hard he works and kind of in awe of the things he’s capable of.  He’s the man!

3) First Visit To Urgent Care

I shared last week that Caleb had been dealing with some yucky Hand, Foot, and Mouth but I thought he was on the mend.  The day that post went live his fever spiked back up again and he was burning up all day.  My mama heart couldn’t take it and since the nurse line recommended we take him in to have the high fever looked at, we took him to the urgent care at a local hospital.  He actually did pretty well getting poked and prodded and they said it seemed like he had maybe picked up another virus or something so we just needed to keep an eye on it.  Holy moly, y’all.  This kid can’t catch a break! He seems to be feeling a bit better and we haven’t had a fever in a few days so hopefully he’ll have a few illness-free weeks.  Fortunately he is still pretty stinking cute even with all the illness so mama is surviving! 😉

4) Tearjerker Shows

Since I’ve spent a lot of time on the couch nursing and snuggling a sick baby, I’ve watched a lot of Netflix.  This week my show of choice was the latest season of Call the Midwife, a historical drama about a house of midwives and nun-midwives in a low-income British city in the 1950s and 1960s.  It is SO good! The way they portray pregnancy, birth, and motherhood is beautiful and empowering and I am pretty much in love with all the quirky characters and their snarky British senses of humor.  If you’re looking for a good show to jump into and are ready to bawl your eyes out every few episodes (okay, every episode) you should check this one out!

5) Some Rest Time

Jordan had parent-teacher conferences this week so Thursday was a half day and he has today off (WOO!).  We are finally getting around to celebrating his birthday with some a couples massage today! We are so, so excited to have some time away for a little day date and a massage is going to feel amazing after running two marathons/lots and lots of holding/snuggling a sick baby that didn’t want to be put down (those things are equally physically strenous, right?).  Shoutout to my sister-in-law Melissa for watching Caleb so we can have some time just the two of us!

I hope you all have wonderful weekends, y’all! Enjoy the beautiful fall weather!

Your poor little nugget; I hope he feels better soon! It’s so sad to see your sweet babe when they’re sick. Last winter my little guy could not catch a break and we had a terrible winter/sick season. Multiple trips to the doctor and ER, it was not fun! But he made it through and I’m just praying this season is better. I hope this is the end of the sickness for you! And holy moly, your hubby is amazing! I’ve run one half and that was exhausting. I can’t imagine doing two wholes within a day of each other!!

Awww, so sorry lil Caleb was sick again!! That’s horrible. I have a marathon-running friend who is from Missouri (yay midwest!) and I give him a hard time about running such wildly long distances. BUT TWO MARATHONS IN ONE WEEKEND?! Stop it. That’s so intense.

Poor baby! I’m dreading the day we have to take Phoenix in for an illness. ;-( A couples massage sounds heavenly. I need to catch up on the latest season of CTMW.
