Five on Friday: Rock Star Husbands And Grandma Visits

June 24, 2016 By Lauren

Happy Friday, y’all! With Jordan being away for a few days (see below), it was a weird week for us but I’m still loving summertime with my sweet family!

1) My Rock Star Hubby

After training hard for the last several months, Jordan headed to Minnesota with a close friend and training partner to run a marathon.  They had both done everything they could to be prepared and were hoping to run the race sub 2:50 (that’s about 6.5 minute miles, people – INSANE).  They signed up for this race in Minnesota with the hopes the weather would be a little cooler, but it was a randomly warm day and was already 75 degrees with lots of humidity by the time the race started.  As my hubby said, that’s great weather for a picnic but NOT for a marathon.  There were tons of runners in the medical tents as the race progressed and the overall average finish time for the race this year was over 30 minutes slower than the last few years.  The heat was intense! Luckily my guy is a rock star and still managed to run a 2:53, beating his old P.R. of 2:55 and continuing his journey towards running the Boston Marathon in 2017! I am so impressed by not only how fast Jordan runs, but also how consistently he trains.  This guy’s the best, y’all.

Jordan didn’t take any pictures at this race so this picture from a 10K he won earlier this year will have to do!

2) A Grandma Visit

Since hubby was out of town for a few days, my mom flew out to keep me company and get some baby snuggles.  The last time she was here Caleb was just about four weeks old, so he has changed SO much since then.  It was so fun to see her fall even more in love with all his sweet little smiles, giggles, and snuggles!  We did some cooking, talked about what my brother and I were like as babies, and spent lots of time watching Caleb on all his sweetness.  Really, is there anything better than having grandma around? We also only got one picture and it’s of Caleb eating my mom’s watch.  Fortunately we’ll be in California visiting them in a few weeks and can maybe take more pictures then!

3) Adding Some Green

While my mom was here we went to Home Depot to buy some herbs and look at house plants.  I don’t have much of a green thumb but I do love the look of plants, so we figured herbs were a good, functional place to start! We bought a little pot with basil, rosemary, thyme, and parsley and a little pot with some spearmint.  I’m excited to try to think of some recipes I can use them in! Fingers crossed I can keep them alive long enough to do that….

4) Opening Our Home

Since having Caleb, it’s been a lot harder to have people over for dinner. I love cooking and I love hosting, but evenings are a little tricky because he’s a little fussier and usually ends up nursing a bit more frequently right before bed.  We were able to have some sweet friends and their one year old little guy over for dinner this week and it was fun to have our dining room full again.  I made a big pan of chicken fajitas with all the fixings and made some Mexican rice for the first time.  I really do miss being in the kitchen and hope that as we settle into more of a consistent bedtime routine with Caleb that will be an option again!

5) New Bible Studies

I shared a while back that I was loving this Bible Study from She Reads Truth that my friend Kylie had encouraged me and a few other moms to read.  Well, it’s finished now and I’m on the lookout for something else to dive into! I think at this point in my life I’d really love something that has a little more structure and dives into Scripture rather than just a paragraph or so devotional to read.  Does anyone have any suggestions of a study you’ve done and liked? I’d love any tips!

Okay, really impressed that Jordan can run that fast first of all, and how great is it that you got to see your mama?! That’s so awesome and I love all the pictures of Caleb’s. He seems SO not impressed in that Home Depot photo. I am also looking for a new way to read the Bible. Lately, I’ve been feeling uninspired and spiritually dry and I am craving the scriptures in a new way. Let me know if you find anything good and I’ll do the same!

I have so much respect for marathon runners but have zero desire to be one…haha. So glad you got time with your mom! It’s been really special watching my parents develop relationships with my nieces and nephew and I can’t wait to add our little guy to the mix.
