Five on Friday: Scary House Projects and Summertime (!!!)

May 27, 2016 By Lauren

It was a fun week of adjusting to our new summertime normal and I love all the time I’ve gotten to spend with my family.  We also celebrated a few fun milestones this week (all having to do with the number 3, randomly).  It was a great week and I can’t wait for many more like it in the next few months!

1) Scary House Projects

Our house backs up to a creek and some woods, a view that I love to see out of our back window.  The only downside is that the three big trees we had in our backyard stopped the yard from getting any sun and it was pretty much a constant mud-pit.  This past weekend Jordan had two friends with some experience in this kind of thing come help him to cut them down.  They were rigging all sorts of ladders, ropes, harnesses and chainsaws into the trees, and I hung out in the house with Caleb as they worked (only to be startled every once in a while by a giant branch falling and shaking the earth beneath our feet).  It was scary to watch the boys up so high in the trees but they did a great job and our yard looks so much brighter now that those trees were gone.  We have all sorts of dreams to make this backyard a more livable space and are so grateful to those friends for coming to clear it all out!

2) Summertime

Jordan’s last day of work was Monday so he is officially done for the summer! WOOOOO! He’ll be coaching cross-country and marathon training in the mornings but besides that will be home with us.  These slow summer days are so fun and we are excited to work on house projects, watch movies, go to the pool, and spend lots of time with our little guy whose personality keeps coming out more and more every day.  Here’s to 12 weeks of summertime with our sweet family!

I have a feeling we’ll spend a lot of time in this exact spot!

3) Three Whole Months

In case you missed yesterday’s post, Caleb turns three months old today! So many people told us that 3 months is the magic point where they become less like newborns and more like little people and it’s been so true.  He is starting to laugh and play and be so, so sweet and I love learning about who he is.  Check out yesterday’s post for more details on this last month and our little man!

4) Our Three Year Anniversary

This week also marked three years since Jordan and I got married.  Three years feels both short and long.  We’ve grown so much in these last few years and I love all the memories we’ve gotten to share, but at the same time three years is so short in the grand scheme of things.  Like I shared about in Monday’s letter, this year we’ve started to see how much of an eternal impact our marriage has as we continue to build our life together and we are so grateful for that! We celebrated with a fun brunch on Wednesday and a baby free lunch/shopping day on Saturday (thanks for watching Caleb, Nana!).  Here’s to many, many more years with my favorite man!

5) Tornado Warnings

We have had all sorts of crazy thunderstorms this week and yesterday we actually had a tornado warning.  We scooped up Caleb from a nap and brought our puppy into the basement, where we all snuggled as we watched the TV down there for updates.  Fortunately nothing touched down close to us, but it was so crazy to sit down there with the sirens going off and this little one snuggled on my chest.  Having this little life to take care of makes scary situations like that all the more crazy.  I’m grateful that we were all safe and there was no major damage from the storm!

I hope you all have wonderful Memorial Day weekends with beautiful, sunny weather (and no storms like we’ve had here)!

3 months totally is the magical turning point! Caleb is absolutely adorable – I’m in love with that hair! Hope you have an amazing summer! Your backyard is like a big forest dream!

Ha we love his hair too. He’s a pretty handsome little guy! 😉 And yes, I love the woods in our backyard! They’re a bit hard to manage but I love how secluded our house feels even though we’re in the middle of a neighborhood.

Sounds like some really great things are happening (minus the tornado warning of course)! A great start to the long days and warm nights of summer is always a pleasure.

Btw, the basement picture is just lovely 🙂

Trees are so scary!! Joe cut one down that was dead the summer we moved in and it was scary, and it wasn’t even as tall as that one looks.

I can’t believe how much hair Caleb has! He is so cute! Those trees look like they were quite the project to remove.. that would definitely classify as a “scary house project” for me as well.
