Five on Friday: Summer Trips And House Changes

July 1, 2016 By Lauren

Happy Friday, y’all! We had another fun week of house projects and time with family and couldn’t be loving summer any more.  The only bummer? Our neighbors think it’s great to start setting off fireworks from 7 -10 PM every night for about 10 days leading up to the 4th of July and 2-3 days after.  It is HORRIBLE for our dog and I’m a little nervous it will wake up Caleb when they get even louder this weekend! I hate to be a mean old lady about it, but seriously people! Calm the heck down with the fireworks! Don’t you know some of us have scaredy-cat pets and sleeping babies?

Anyway, angry rant over…here are a few updates from our week!

1) Emptying Our Living Room

Now that we’ve lived in our house almost a year and a half, we have such a better idea of both the decorating styles we like and the way that we actually use the spaces in our home.  For the last few months I’ve been looking at the bookshelves I styled for our living room in the very beginning and itching to change them to better match our style now.  On a whim this week, we decided to just go for it and make a change! We took everything off the shelves and piled it on our dining room table. Jordan’s going to put some trim and molding on the shelves to look like built-ins and then I’ll work on styling them in a cleaner, more simple way.  I am so excited to get started on this project and make our living room a cozier, cleaner space!

Once Jordan’s done updating the shelves, I’ll start the fun process of restyling everything using all the goodies that used to be there plus some other ones I’d had hiding in the basement.  I can’t wait!

2) Bathroom Updates

The itch to update things in our house didn’t stop with the living room and we started updating our guest bathroom! There are two bathrooms upstairs: the master bath and a smaller bathroom that will function as the kids’ bathroom and a bathroom for any guests.  It’s a pretty simple little room with a builder grade mirror and cabinets, some basic fixtures, and some (rather sloppy) brown paint. I have dreams of making it a bright, fun space that will work for both kids and guests.  We’ve got a long way to go, but we stripped, prepped, and painted the walls with a few coats of pale white/gray paint this week (the same color as Caleb’s nursery).  It already looks so much better!  I can’t wait to finish it and share it with you all later this summer!

3) Four Month Celebrations

Caleb turned four months old this week and it was such a fun few days with him.  I shared more updates in his four month update post, but I am loving this stage so much.  He’s so smiley and sweet with us and his little giggles just about melt my heart.  I love this kid so much and can’t wait for many more months with him!

4) Niece and Nephew Time

I’ve mentioned before that this was the year of babies for our family, and the final little one is due to arrive any day now! My sister in law dropped off her two older kids with us while she and my brother in law went for her 40 week checkup and we had a lot of fun playing basketball and hanging with these kiddos.  I’m so grateful that Caleb will grow up surrounded by family and lots of fun cousins to play with.  Here’s hoping our newest niece decides that she’s ready to enter the world and meet us because we sure are excited to meet her (and I have a feeling her mama is ready to get her the heck out!).

5) Cali Vacation

We’ll head out to California soon to spend some time with my grandparents and we are so excited to soak in some California sunshine and introduce Caleb to some friends and family there.  We don’t have that many plans for while we’re there, although I’m guessing a beach trip will be in order at some point.  All I know is we will do some laying by the pool, let grandma/granddad have lots of snuggles, and enjoy bringing Caleb into the world where I grew up.  I am a little nervous for the plane ride though so I’m doing lots of research on flying with a little one.  Any experienced moms have any tips on that one? It’s a three hour direct flight in the late morning, so I’m crossing my fingers little guy will be in great spirits!

California Flight Preboarding

The last time we went to Cali, I was rocking a baby on board. This time we’ll be taking our actual baby nugget!

I will probably step back from blogging for a week or two while we’re traveling and out and about but I can’t wait to check back in with you all soon! I hope you have a wonderful 4th of July and soak in lots of sweet time with your favorites!

Oh man! So many fun things are happening for you guys!!!

Good luck with the flight – I bet he will do great!! We flew with Adeline when she was 7 weeks and she did great!! I just wore her as much as possible through the airport and on the plane – she mostly slept through it all! I nursed her during takeoff/landing and she didn’t have any issues. Granted, she was awake in general a lot less then than now, so I’m sure he will make a little more noise than she did! 😉

We’ve flown with ours since they were just a couple weeks old. The good news is it doesn’t get much easier than this infant stage! I’d suggest wearing him on the flight and through the airport (depending on the airline, they might make you take him out for takeoff and landing). Some people say to nurse during takeoff and landing to help his ears, but I found it best to feed only if they were awake, but to let them sleep if they wanted to.
I hope y’all have a blast! How exciting that he has so many grandparents and great-grandparents to love on him.

Isn’t the pre-boarding pregnancy perk awesome? From what I hear nursing/feeding babies during take off and landing is helpful as bringing extra clothes for mom and dad incase of spit up! Excited to see your updated shelves!
