Five On Friday: Gender Reveal!

October 23, 2015 By Lauren

Hi friends! It’s been a fun week in the English household.  We got to see our little bean on the ultrasound, celebrate some fun Royals’ victories, and soak in slow time together.  Weeks like this are my favorite! Here’s a peek at what our week looked like:

1) Trip to Branson

We headed out to good ol’ Branson, MO for a weekend getaway with our brother and sister-in-law.  If you’ve never been to Branson, well, let’s just say it’s the Southern Baptist version of Las Vegas, complete with as many rhinestone-studded, Gospel-singing shows as any good Midwesterner could ever want.  We didn’t do anything in the weekend that we couldn’t have just done in KC, but we still had lots of fun going on a walk around the lake, admiring the pretty trees, watching lots of baseball, and seeing The Martian, a movie we’d been super excited for! It was slow and joyful and exactly what we needed.  I’m grateful to have family around who we love spending time with! We love you, Markus and Missy!

2) Royals, Royals, and More Royals!

In case you don’t follow sports in the slightest, it’s been a big few weeks for the KC Royals.  We have watched TONS of baseball, so much so that I actually watched a game BY MYSELF when Jordan went to the game with a friend (this is big, people).  It’s fun to see the whole city turn blue in honor of our team and I’m crossing my fingers we get a World Series win this year!

Jordan's view from a Royals' game he went to last week!

3) Breakfast Food and Pumpkin Recipes

We hosted our church small group on Tuesday night to watch the end of the Royals’ game and hang out.  Dinner was my favorite meal ever: brinner! I made delicious pumpkin pancakes and we had lots of fun munching on cinnamon rolls, breakfast casseroles, and my pumpkin spice brownies for dessert (because even breakfast deserves dessert).  Give me all the fall recipes, people.  I can’t get enough!

4) Gender Reveal

And now….what you’ve all been waiting for (or not really thinking about, either way)….we had our ultrasound this week to see how Baby English is doing as we hit the halfway point in pregnancy (The halfway point?! Where is the time going?!).  And friends, we are super excited to announce that our little bean is a BOY! He wasn’t the slightest bit shy about showing his gender so we know for sure our house will be gaining a manly little one come March.

I’ll share more in a post next week about how baby’s doing, the name, and a new bump picture, but for now, I’m so overjoyed and excited to say that baby is doing well and we had LOTS of fun shopping for cute onesies like these ones below.  By the way, we thought about doing some sort of cute party or Pinterest-style reveal and then decided we were just too excited and wanted to tell everyone.  So instead we went to Target, got a couple of cute boy onesies, snapped a few pics, then started texting as many people as we could to share the news.  Sorry, Pinterest.  Maybe next time?

5) Nursery Planning

I think it took less than an hour after getting home for me to start dreaming and planning about a little boy nursery.  I’m sure I’ll share more inspiration soon, but for now I’m leaning towards something with light gray walls and white trim, a white crib, an off white or gray glider, and some accents of navy and rustic wood with other natural textures.  Maybe with some vintage travel, map, and general adventuring themes? We shall see, people, we shall see.  Let the dreaming and Pinteresting and shopping begin!  This picture below is one of my favorites, even though I don’t know that I’ll do an animal theme.  Love these colors and the overall feel!
