Home Inspiration: Painted Kitchen Cabinets

Painted Kitchen Cabinet Inspiration Sobremesa Stories

When we were looking for a house, one of my biggest priorities was a big, open kitchen.  I learned to cook in our tiny apartment kitchens and was tired of stacking cutting boards, bowls, and pots on top of each other in an effort to get multiple dishes cooked at once.  When we found our current house, the kitchen was one of my favorite parts.

Our kitchen (Picture from original listing)

Our new kitchen is open and bright and looks out onto our living room, breakfast nook, and backyard.  We have cooked meals for many people, and I love when this kitchen is full of people munching on chips and salsa, pouring cups of coffee, or eating mocha brownies straight out of the pan.  I dream about one day cooking for our family while kiddos do homework at the table or play in the living room.  I LOVE our space, and am so grateful for it.

Buuuuut that doesn’t mean I’m not dreaming about how to make it even more beautiful! For a couple months I’ve been pinning and dreaming about painting our kitchen cabinets, and tackling that monster of a project is on my to-do list for summer.  I love how much brighter a kitchen looks with painted cabinets, and know I will love it in our kitchen too.  I’m leaning towards painting them somewhere in the gray/blue/green family.  Some of my inspiration comes from these gorgeous kitchens below!

Gray Painted Kitchen Cabinets

Gray is currently the frontrunner for our kitchen cabinets.  I think it will fit well with the rest of our house and I love how beautiful it looks with rustic wood and textured accents like the bamboo shades below.  But there are so many beautiful shades of gray….how the heck is a girl supposed to choose?

Blue & Green Painted Kitchen Cabinets

I love all the beautiful muted blue and green kitchens popping up on Pinterest.  They are so bright and calming.  Since my entire house is already full of blue-green accents in these shades, it might be a little much for us.  But holy moly….they are GORGEOUS.

White Painted Kitchen Cabinets

We have white appliances we will probably keep for several years, so white might not be the way we go for now.  I also don’t know white would hold up with our black lab who loves to lay on the kitchen floor against the cabinets.  Still, there’s something so clean and fresh about a white kitchen.  Maybe one day!

What are some of your favorite colors and styles for painted kitchen cabinets? Any advice for me as I attempt to tackle this monster of a project?

GRAY! All the way. Love the deeper/cooler gray in the first photo, especially contrasted to the crisp white and woods. Anything you all choose will be wonderful–that kitchen layout is a pretty awesome blank slate!

I agree! My favorite kitchen of all is that darker gray one with the rustic shelves. I already bought hardware that looks like that and I love it! Thanks for sharing your opinion, Tail 😉
