If you are dating someone, married, or have been either of those things at some point, you know that arguments with your significant other happen. Any time we share our hearts, bodies, and souls with another person, it’s inevitable that some sort of friction will rise up. Even the best happily ever after’s have a solid argument every once in a while, and anyone who tells you differently is either lying or hasn’t been married long enough to get down to the nitty-gritty (it only took us maybe…hmm….3 days into marriage to get to this point. We’re over-achievers, you know?)

Five On Friday: Patriotic Projects and SUMMERTIME
If you’re reading this post, it means my four weeks of summer school are officially done and it is summertime! PRAAAAAAAISE! Even though I’d say fall is my favorite season, as a teacher, there are few things better than those sweet weeks of break from the ups and downs of working with middle schoolers. I can’t wait for six weeks of sleeping in, jumping more fully into blogging, snuggling my puppy and hubby, pool time, watermelon, iced coffee, and a million other things. Seriously…summer is the best.
I’m linking up with A. Liz Adventures, Fitting It All In, Life in Leggings, Grace and Love Blog, Momfessionals Friday Favorites, Friday Letters, and Running 4 Cupcakes to share some of my Friday favorites and random updates from this week! Enjoy!
How To Keep Chicken Moist In Any Recipe
Like I explained in my very first post on this blog, I’m a big believer that inviting people into our homes and around our tables is one of the best ways we can love them. I love serving our friends and family food that I’ve made with my own hands, and there’s something so sweet about knowing their stomachs and hearts can be nourished by time around our table.
Womanly Wednesday: A Guest Post On Weakness And Worth
Thanks for stopping by for this week’s Womanly Wednesday Guest Post! Today’s post is by the lovely Kelsie of Currently, Kelsie. I met Kelsie through Young Life here in KC, and it’s crazy how many things we have in common. She’s a teacher and Young Life leader who loves and leads her students well, she got married around the same time my hubby and I did, she recently jumped into the blogging world too, and she is wise, funny, and a wonderful writer. I hope you’ll check out her blog to read more of her thoughts or her Facebook page for more blog updates!
How To Make A Patriotic Burlap Wreath
There’s something so pretty and cozy about a front door with a wreath on it. I’ve always admired women who can whip up beautiful, colorful wreaths but felt a little nervous to try something that seemed so complex and “advanced” for a beginning crafter like me.
Last fall, I finally got brave enough to try my hand at a burlap bubble wreath, following some tutorials I found online (which I’ve since gotten a new computer and lost the links to!). I tied on some burlap autumn leaves from World Market using pipe cleaners and hung the whole thing on our apartment door. Every time I came home it made me smile a little to see my own handiwork looking so cute on our door!
What I’m Scared To Ask God For
I have always been a journaler, and pouring out my heart to God on the pages of a journal feels as natural as talking to a best friend. I love that God cares enough about my heart to listen to me ramble about all of those crazy emotions swirling around inside of me. I have stacks and stacks of journals with pages filled with everything from the ramblings of a new-to-faith teenager to the confessions, desires, and prayers for my marriage and my still-new adult life.
But when it comes to actually asking for specific, tangible things? I’m not so sure.
My Hesitations with prayer
Five On Friday: Summer Celebrations and Car Troubles
Happy Friday, friends! I am officially done with week 3 of summer school, which means I am just ONE week away from actual summer. The teacher life is a good life, y’all! This week has felt a little crazy since we got back from our Boulder trip on Sunday night and jumped back into work Monday morning. Here are a few highlights of things I’ve been thinking, reading, dealing with, and eating this week!
Womanly Wednesday: A Guest Post on Motherhood And Answered Prayers
When I moved to Kansas City three years ago, Jessica was one of the first women I met. Whether she’s working, leading and pouring into Young Life girls and women like me, or loving on her two sweet girls, her joy, laughter, and passion are contagious. Jessica is one of those people who makes you feel like you are the most interesting, funny, and wonderful person in the room (and who doesn’t love that?). It’s been a joy to know her these last few years, and I’m excited to share her Womanly Wednesday post with you today!
First off, let me tell you guys that writing this post almost tore me up from the inside out. I knew what I wanted to say, but I had an absolutely terrible time trying to say it. You see, I didn’t want to sound ungrateful.
Berry Almond Tart – A Fourth of July Favorite
If I had to choose one recipe that reminds me of my childhood summers, it’s this one. My neighborhood threw EPIC 4th of July parties complete with a full-out bike parade through the neighborhood, hours of pool time, delicious cookout food of all types, and an hour of (probably) illegal fireworks while all of us sunburned kids ooh-ed and aah-ed in the cul-de-sac.
Boulder Bound: My First Colorado Trip
Like I described in my post on learning to love my husband’s hobbies last week, my hubby is quite the athlete. He loves anything that takes him outside! The main race he was training for this season was a Half-Ironman triathlon in Boulder, CO this last weekend. In case you aren’t familiar with the Ironman races, a Half-Ironman is a race where a bunch of crazy people swim 1.2 miles, bike 56 miles, and then run 13 miles. On the same day. Without dying. (Remember when I said they were crazy?) We left Thursday morning to start the nine-hour drive from KC to Boulder. Although I WISH we could have taken this cutie with us, we had two wonderful ladies to stay with her and snuggle her while we were gone. Thanks, Aunt Jessie and Aunt Liz!
